Intensive study of one or more topics in linguistics, through a variety of methods, e.g. lectures, discussions, readings, listening and/or viewings, and demonstrated application of learning. The topics may be studied in conjunction with the Australian Linguistic Institute organised by the Australian Linguistic Society.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. discuss and apply concepts, methods and theories associated with the focus topics;
  2. engage critically with relevant sources;
  3. undertake agreed tasks related to the focus topics; and
  4. complete a research project involving independent study.

Indicative Assessment

  1. At least two pieces of written or relevant work of not more than 6000 words (50% each) (100) [LO 1,2,3,4]

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload

130 hours of total student learning time made up from:

a) 36 hours of contact over 12 weeks: 24 hours of lectures and 12 hours of tutorials or equivalent, and

b) 94 hours of independent student research, reading and writing.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must have completed 24 units of Linguistics (LING) courses and/or have permission of the convenor. You are not able to enrol in this course if you have previously completed LING6525.
