The major in Management incorporates a range of disciplines to analyse the principal issues and considerations relevant to management. Students are introduced to the important concepts and practices in managing people and resources in the organisational context. The core courses in the major aims to develop skills and competencies in management relating to human resource management, organisational behaviour, and corporate strategy. Depending on the electives chosen, students have the option of developing their understanding of specific management practices including those related to cross-cultural management, labour economics and industrial relations, corporate sustainability, organisational change, business project management, business ethics, leadership, international human resource management, and entrepreneurship and innovation.
Application of knowledge and skills
Graduates with a major in Management will demonstrate the application of management knowledge and skills:
- with initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in professional practice and/or scholarship;
- to adapt knowledge and skills in diverse contexts; and,
- with responsibility and accountability for own learning and professional practice and in collaboration with others within broad parameters.

- Demonstrate a broad understanding of management knowledge with depth in some areas;
- Exercise critical thinking and judgement in identifying and solving problems with intellectual independence; and

Students who are doing an AATD course(s) as part of their major studies are expected to choose a KNoT (project) that is highly relevant to that major. Otherwise, the expectation is that you do the AATD course(s) as a general elective and choose another course from the major list of electives to count towards the 48 units study requirement.
Alternative Course Study
On a case-by-case basis, the RSM Deputy Director (Education) may approve alternative courses to be counted towards the major restricted choice study requirements. Such reasons may be (but are not limited to) the following:
- Supporting applications for global exchange opportunities for overseas study
- Unexpected change in course class offerings that impact study plans
- New (or other) courses being offered that complement existing courses within the major
Requests are to be made to the Convenor via email to ANU Student Central, and for each alternative course nominated, please include the following details:
- Course code and course name
- 1–2 sentences to justify the relevance of the alternative course to this major
- 1–2 sentences to explain how the alternative course supports your future career ambitions/prospects
