This course explores teaching methods and approaches in a range of instructional contexts, from physical classrooms to technology-mediated environments. Students will develop language teaching skills in a language of their choice. Students are encouraged to reflect critically on their own language learning experiences as a basis for developing practical language teaching skills for a range of learners, including children and adult learners. Through reflective practice and exposure to theories of learning and teaching, students develop insight on their own and others’ learning and teaching styles and strategies. Active engagement with peers with different disciplinary and linguistic backgrounds fosters an understanding of learner and teacher diversity. Course activities include teaching practice sessions, materials development and educational resource evaluation. The course combines theory and research in applied linguistics with students’ language skills and cultural knowledge. Engaged participation in this course will develop the capacity for an informed, reflective and context-sensitive approach to language instruction.
